Calgary, AB (June 26, 2026) - From thunderous heavy horses and elite stock dogs to sliding stops, fast-paced cattle penning and world-class roping, agriculture and Western events take centre stage at the 2026 Calgary Stampede.
Admission to Stampede Park includes access to a lineup of action-packed competitions and showcases inside the Nutrien Western Event Centre, where guests can relax, recharge and experience the skill, tradition, horsepower and Stampede spirit behind some of the Calgary Stampede's most exciting agricultural events.
Celebrating an extraordinary 140-year legacy, the Heavy Horse Show returns from July 3 to 6 as the oldest heavy horse show in North America and the longest-running agricultural competition at the Calgary Stampede. Throughout the four-day event, guests will see some of the world's largest horse breeds compete in judged classes that showcase power, precision and elite handling. Among the highlights is the World Championship Six-Horse Hitch at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, where top teams of majestic, one-ton horses in polished leather harnesses will compete for a $25,000 first-place prize in one of the Stampede's most striking displays of strength, elegance and Western heritage.
The Calgary Stampede Team Cattle Penning Championships presented by PetrusResources bring fast-paced ranching action from July 4 to 6. In this race against the clock, teams of three riders have 60 seconds to separate three specifically identified cattle from a herd of 30 and move them into a pen at the opposite end of the arena. Teamwork is everything, with all three riders working together to cut out the correct cattle and guide them to the pen. The championship features teams competing for saddles and buckles in four classes, with each class determined by the skill and experience of the competitors.
The Reining Showcase takes place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, bringing one of Western sport's most precise equestrian disciplines back to Stampede Park. Introduced in 2025, the showcase highlights the athleticism, control and partnership between horse and rider as they perform spins, sliding stops, rollbacks and other intricate manoeuvres. Often described as Western dressage, reining demands finesse, timing and exceptional communication between horse and rider. The result is a captivating display of speed, precision and trust.
The action continues July 7 and 8 at the World Stock Dog Championships presented by Airbnb where intelligence, speed and teamwork face the clock. 60 top stock dogs and their handlers will guide sheep through a challenging obstacle course that tests agility, communication and control. A longtime fan favourite, the championship gives guests an exciting look at one of ranching's most essential working partnerships.
The Rocky Mountain Cup returns to the Calgary Stampede at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, bringing together the top 30 team roping duos in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association world standings. The event continues to grow with $310,250 on the line, up $110,250 from 2025, making it one of Canada's richest roping competitions. See the full lineup of headers and heelers here.
The Cowboy Up Challenge returns July 9 to 12 with high-intensity competition built on horsemanship, athleticism and trust. Ten of the world's top horse-and-rider teams will tackle a demanding obstacle course that tests speed, precision and teamwork. As the most-viewed and highest-paying Extreme Cowboy Race in the world, this crowd-pleasing event delivers an exciting showcase of skill, grit and Stampede spirit.
North America's strongest workhorses take the spotlight from July 10 to 12 for the Calgary Stampede Heavy Horse Pull, the ultimate test of strength and teamwork. Competitors face off in light, middle and heavyweight divisions, with teams pulling massive loads in front of a roaring crowd. Every pull brings intensity, strategy and raw power, as teamsters and horses work together to move the heaviest load. With the highest cash payouts in the heavy horse pulling world on the line, only the strongest teams will rise to the top.
