Donald Trump is steering the economy off a cliff: The U.S. economy is slowing down while inflation ticks up, and wages decrease. Data shows that the vast majority of households are barely keeping their spending up with inflation. Latinos are feeling the effects and are paying the price of Trump's reckless economic agenda.
It's no wonder that more than half of Latino voters say that Trump's policies are making them financially worse off.
In response, DNC Senior Spokesperson Marcus W. Robinson released the following statement:
"Donald Trump's economy is doing nobody any favors except for his big corporate backers. From his unhinged trade war to his billionaire-first budget, Americans can't seem to catch a break, and Trump is doing nothing to deliver on his promise to lower costs. More than half of Latino voters are worried about rising food prices and potential job losses. Let's be clear: Trump is leaving Latinos and hard-working families behind, all while he enriches himself, his family, and the wealthy elites around him."
Working families are tightening their wallets because of Trump's economic agenda, as prices continue to soar and the fears of a recession rise. Just last week, reports showed that the economy may be in a state of early-onset stagflation, meaning that the economy is slowing down, but prices are going up. As a result, Latino families are rejecting Trump's economy: around 71% of Latinos say Trump's tariffs are raising the cost of goods they buy, and 42% say costs are increasing "a lot."
Trump can't hide from this reality. More than half of Latino voters feel that the economy is worsening, and even more view it negatively. Clearly, Americans are feeling stuck as finding a job becomes nearly impossible and the income gap continues to grow. And for Latinos, Trump's economic failures have translated to a higher unemployment rate compared to White Americans. That is why poll after poll shows that Latino voters disapprove of Trump's economy.
Trump's billionaire-first budget, the largest wealth transfer in history, is only making life more difficult and more expensive for Americans. Meanwhile, Trump and Republicans are lying about the damage they've done to our economy as they throw Latinos and working families under the bus.
