Ciscomani Leads Letter to Arizona Senators Kelly and Gallego Urging them to End Shutdown and Support Arizonans

TUCSON - Congressman Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06) led fellow members of Arizona's Republican House delegation in sending a letteron day six of the federal government shutdown to Arizona Senators Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) urging them to vote YES on a clean, seven-week continuing resolution (CR) that would reopen the federal government. Today, the Senate is scheduled to vote on the legislation.

Every Arizona Republican voted in support of H.R. 5371, the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2026. The bill is a straightforward, nonpartisan extension of current funding level. Such legislation has been routinely adopted in previous years - under both Republican and Democratic administrations.

In part, the delegation wrote in the letter: "Our goal in passing this bill was quite simple: keep the government open and functioning for all those who depend on it for a paycheck, and the critical services that our federal government provides."

The letter cites the wide-ranging impacts of the shutdown across Arizona, including for:

· Ten military installations

· Over 34,000 federal civilian employees

· Approximately 20,000 active-duty service members

· More than 450,000 veterans

· Thousands of Arizona families relying on WIC, small business loans, and essential federal services

They concluded saying: "This shutdown was not necessary - but its already happened. Now is the time to do the right thing and vote to reopen our government. We have a duty as elected officials to ensure the people come before politics and thus, we urge you to join us for the good of all our constituents and put Arizonans first.
