Denver Clerk & Recorder Paul López has issued the following statement in response to President Trump's push to nationalize elections:

"The constitution is clear: Article I, Section 4, Clause I states, 'The Times, Places, and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof.'

We are not a dictatorship, as much as Trump wants it to be.

We, the people, elect our leadership, and we are going to hold elections in June and November whether they like it or not.

People, get ready."
