READOUT: Ranking Member Shaheen’s Meeting with the Chair of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšic

NEW YORK CITY-Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, met with Željko Komšic, the current Chair of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly High Level Week.

The Senator reaffirmed her strong support for Bosnia and Herzegovina's stability, territorial integrity and aspirations for Euro-Atlantic integration. She highlighted the importance of renewing the Security Council mandate for EUFOR Althea in October and stressed the need to preserve Bosnia's multi-ethnic character and power-sharing arrangements. The Senator also expressed concern for Bosnia's political stability following Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik's planned referendum that threatens to undermine Bosnia's sovereignty and the Dayton Peace Agreement. The Senator also reiterated the importance of diversifying energy sources away from Russia and underscored the necessity of advancing the Southern Gas Interconnector Project to reduce Russia's malign influence on the country.
