Schools across L.A. County are being recognized for creating positive, supportive learning environments, including LACOE's Los Padrinos Juvenile Court School, which earned Bronze honors.

The Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) proudly celebrates schools throughout L.A. County that earned the 2026 California Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) recognition.

Among this year's honorees is LACOE's Los Padrinos Juvenile Court School, which earned Bronze recognition. The award reflects the school community's dedication to creating a safe, consistent and affirming educational environment for the young people it serves.

"Our L.A. County PBIS awardees are demonstrating what is possible when educators intentionally build school communities centered on belonging, positive relationships and the needs of the whole child," said Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Debra Duardo. "I am especially proud of the team at Los Padrinos Juvenile Court School for ensuring that young people are met with encouragement, opportunity and caring adults who believe in their potential."

At Los Padrinos, dedicated workshop days helped establish schoolwide expectations, systems of support and strategies for promoting positive student behavior. The PBIS team reinforced this work through monthly meetings, staff training and campus walk-throughs, using evidence, data and student feedback to monitor progress and strengthen practices.

The California PBIS State Recognition System honors schools that implement PBIS with fidelity to the national framework. Recognized schools demonstrate a commitment to building positive, inclusive and supportive environments in which students can learn and thrive. Schools may receive Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum recognition based on their level of implementation.

This year, nearly 2,700 schools across California earned recognition for the 2025-26 school year, including schools throughout Los Angeles County.

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports is an evidence-based, tiered framework that helps schools strengthen student behavior, social-emotional development and academic success. PBIS emphasizes clearly defined expectations, proactive teaching, positive reinforcement, data-informed decision-making and increasingly individualized support based on student needs.

LACOE congratulates Los Padrinos Juvenile Court School and all of this year's L.A. County honorees for their leadership and commitment to helping every learner flourish.
