K9 Lambeau was born in Mamaroneck, New York and underwent training at Assistance Dogs of the West in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He started his training at just eight weeks old and was matched with his handler, Reno Fire Inspector Katie Nelson, a few months ago.
"Lambeau will be instrumental in the work we do at the Reno Fire Department by providing our firefighters, staff, and regional first responder partners with comfort, connection and an opportunity to decompress after difficult situations," said Nelson. "I'm excited to have Lambeau by my side and look forward to what we will accomplish together in the future."
"Mental health is just as important as physical health, and we look forward to the positive impact K9 Lambeau will have on our crews by offering comfort when they need it most," said Reno Fire Chief Dave Cochran. "The Reno Fire Department is proud to welcome Lambeau to our family."
On a typical day, K9 Lambeau wakes up bright and early and heads to Reno City Hall to kick off his workday. He attends planning meetings with the Fire Prevention team, travels to fire stations to support crews, and makes sure to greet everyone with affection. K9 Lambeau also takes time to discuss important topics with his friend, retired K9 Boston, which can include talks about who gives the best pets and why peanut butter treats are superior.
