Advanced Accessible Navigation Technology will elevate passenger experience
(Hanover Township, PA) - On Friday, October 24th, Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) became the first airport in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to deploy GoodMaps - a revolutionary indoor navigation platform.
The announcement included a community celebration with live navigation demonstrations, accessibility advocacy discussions, behind-the-scenes technology displays, and hands-on experience opportunities showcasing the technology's transformative impact on accessible travel.
Redefining Regional Airport Excellence
Through LiDAR technology, the GoodMaps platform delivers comprehensive accessibility features including audio guidance for blind and low-vision travelers, visual directions for deaf and hard-of-hearing passengers, automatic step-free routing for wheelchair users, and multilingual support in 18+ languages.
"As a customer-centric organization, the Airport is committed to building a safe and superior travel experience with outstanding resources like GoodMaps," said Thomas R. Stoudt, Executive Director at ABE.
"While navigating through larger hub airports can feel complex and overwhelming, ABE is focused on what matters most - ensuring all passengers can navigate our terminal with minimal stress and total independence."
Pennsylvania's Accessibility Leadership
The celebration event also featured representatives from leading Pennsylvania disability advocacy organizations, including:
• Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania (DRN)
• The Arc of Pennsylvania / The Arc of Lehigh and Northampton Counties
• Pennsylvania Association for the Blind
• Lehigh Valley Center for Independent Living
• American Foundation for the Blind (regional representatives)
• Local accessibility advocates and community leaders
Advanced Technology Features
GoodMaps transforms the ABE customer experience through:
• Infrastructure-Free Deployment: No beacons, QR codes, or costly sensor installations
• Real-Time Map Management: ABE staff can instantly update info through GoodMaps Studio
• Pre-Trip Planning: Interactive web maps allow travelers to explore the terminal before arriving
• Universal Design: Benefits all travelers while specifically addressing accessibility needs
• Multilingual Interface: Navigation available in 18+ languages
Why This Matters
GoodMaps technology addresses critical gaps in accessible travel by delivering:
• Independent Navigation: Reduces reliance on passenger assistance services
