HARRISBURG - As frustration swirls around the lack of a state budget, and a parallel federal budget impasse, Rep. Joe D'Orsie (R-Manchester) is issuing the following statement:
"My colleagues and I have yet to receive a serious budget proposal worthy of consideration. As the majority party in the House continues to bring up inconsequential resolutions and controversial labor bills, they've yet to move the ball forward on a responsible budget proposal. The budget is now 100 days late. Senior centers, school districts and county services are being seriously threatened. This is both irresponsible and disturbingly political.
"The Senate majority, as negotiations have continued, passed a $47.6 billion budget that would drive dollars to essential human services, K-12 education programs, county assistance programs and senior centers. We've not had a chance to debate this bill or vote on it in the House of Representatives. This is very frustrating. Revenues for the fiscal year, according to the Independent Fiscal Office, are estimated at $44.6 billion. The governor's original budget proposal of $51.5 billion would cost nearly $7 billion more than we have. If this were to go through, all constituents will surely face a tax increase in the near future.
"I remain committed to passing a responsible budget, one that not only drives dollars to critical services, but protects taxpayers. And it's my hope that we do this now... not tomorrow, not next week, not next month. The clock is ticking, and our communities deserve better."
