Today, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly released the following statement after Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans failed to pass a government funding bill, triggering a federal government shutdown and leaving just weeks until health care premiums spike for more than 379,000 Arizonans:
"This shutdown didn't have to happen, but President Trump and Republicans in Congress decided they'd rather shut down the government than keep health premiums from spiking for millions of Americans.
"Our job is to get results for the American people. I know that we can find a solution that addresses rising health care costs and reopens the government quickly, and that's what I'll keep working on every day until we get it done."
While federal agencies will have reduced capacity and many offices will be closed entirely, Senator Kelly's office will continue to serve Arizonans to the maximum ability during the shutdown.
