Portland, OR - The Democratic Party of Oregon issued a statement Friday in support of Judge Immergut's ruling to effectively bar the deployment of the National Guard to Portland.

"We agree with the Governor, Attorney General, Portland Mayor, and Portland Chief of Police that the number of troops needed in Portland is zero," said DPO Executive Director Candy Emmons, citing numerous statements and supporting evidence presented by public officials.

"Oregonians have demonstrated for months that escalations at the ICE facility are coming from one side," Emmons said. "Protesters exercising their First Amendment rights have been met with tear gas and other aggressive crowd-control tactics that only inflame the situation, which is exactly what Trump wants. Reports show that rightwing influencers have even joined federal law enforcement on site, provoking protesters to manufacture footage for disinformation. This abuse of power and misuse of our nation's military must end, and we applaud Judge Immergut's ruling to uphold the law."

Emmons said there's more work to do to protect our immigrant and refugee neighbors.

"ICE, on Trump's orders, is intentionally engaging in tactics designed to instill fear in our communities. But we will not be intimidated, and we will continue to stand with the immigrant and refugee communities as we resist this dangerous, unlawful presidential administration alongside our coalition partners. This place is worth protecting. Portland is our home, and we will not allow it to be used for political theater."
