Haverkamp retires after 40 years at KDOT

Bruce Haverkamp, Assistant to the Director of the Division of Engineering and Design, is retiring after 40 years of distinguished service to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Haverkamp began his KDOT career in December 1985 as a temporary employee on a survey crew. In February 1987, he began full time on survey crews statewide until December 1989, when he transferred to the Bureau of Road Design at headquarters in Topeka.

He spent the next 28 years in Road Design, ultimately promoting to Road Design Mentor. In August 2017, Haverkamp was promoted to his current position, Assistant to the Director. He has served his entire KDOT career in the Division of Engineering and Design.

"I couldn't have worked for a better agency. I have had great coworkers and supervisors along the way," Bruce said. "KDOT gave me my start, which blossomed into a wonderful career. I've been very fortunate."

In retirement, he and his wife, Liese, plan to spend more time with their two children and families. They also look forward to traveling, taking cruises and enjoying time on the lake.

Haverkamp's retirement reception is on Sept. 9 in Topeka, and his final day in the office will be Sept. 11.
