WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement after Senate Republicans decided to finally reopen most of the Department of Homeland Security and pay Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents.
"For weeks, Senate Democrats have been trying to reopen and fund the parts of the Department of Homeland Security where we have agreement - particularly paying TSA agents. Unfortunately, Senate Republicans refused every time," said Senator Rosen. "After more than a month of a partial government shutdown, I'm glad to see Senate Republicans have finally come to their senses and have agreed to fund most of the department - paying our TSA agents and making sure our Coast Guard and disaster response agency have the resources they need. I'll continue fighting to rein in ICE and ensure they abide by the same standards that other law enforcement officers have to follow."
Senator Rosen has been fighting to pay TSA agents while continuing to push for guardrails for ICE. Earlier this year, she called for reforms to rein in ICE officers following the killings of two Americans in Minneapolis. During the Republican shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security, Senator Rosen tried to pass her bill to pay TSA agents but Republicans blocked it multiple times.
