The Brazilian Government welcomes the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran, which provides for the end of the conflict that began on February 28 in the Middle East.
While recognizing the important mediation role played by the Government of Pakistan, as well as Qatar, with contributions from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Turkey, in bringing about this understanding, Brazil urges the parties to adhere strictly to the agreed terms. In particular, it calls for the complete cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon, as well as for continued engagement in good-faith negotiations and the strengthening of mutual trust, in order to ensure the conclusion of a comprehensive peace agreement.
Brazil reaffirms its conviction that diplomatic dialogue is the only path toward lasting stability and security in the Middle East and, in particular, in the State of Palestine, both in Gaza and the West Bank.
