Government and UNDP representatives at the Second RREEF Project Steering Committee meeting
The second Project Steering Committee (PSC) meeting of the Maldives RREEF Programme, funded by the Global Fund for Coral Reefs (GFCR), was held on 28 October 2025.
Co-chaired by the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) and UNDP Maldives, the meeting brought together representatives from key government institutions and partner agencies to review progress, assess implementation milestones, and explore ways to accelerate delivery.
Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration and leveraging partnerships across sectors to ensure alignment with national priorities and sustain the long-term impact of investments in the blue economy.
The RREEF Programme is implemented with the technical expertise of the Ministry of Tourism, the Maldives Marine Research Institute (MMRI), and the Business Center Corporation (BCC), with support from the Environmental Regulatory Authority (ERA). Together, these partners are working to build a resilient and sustainable blue economy that supports coral reef protection and livelihoods dependent on marine ecosystems.
The meeting was attended by representatives from key government agencies, including the Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, reflecting a whole-of-government approach to sustaining the Maldives' marine resources and promoting inclusive, sustainable growth.
