Recycling Superheroes: ReMA Member Monterrey Metal Recycling Solutions Combines Industry Impact and Community Engagement in Celebration of Earth Week 2026

In the recycled materials industry, we often say that "Every Day is Earth Day." Last week, San Antonio-based Monterrey Metal Recycling Solutions (MMRS) put that mantra into action with a community-wide celebration.

MMRS kicked off its week-long Earth Day celebration with a carnival style, family-friendly event where employees invited their families to a behind the scenes look at the work they do. The event also included games and activities that brought to life the important role MMRS employees play in keeping valuable recycled materials in circulation.

"This celebration was about honoring our employees-the true recycling superheroes-and sharing that pride with their families. It's also a way to reinforce a simple idea: Every Day is Earth Day," said Jordan Vexler, CEO of Monterrey Metal Recycling Solutions

MMRS extended its community outreach to San Antonio's civic leaders, delivering "Recycling Superhero" kits to the Mayor, City Council, and Bexar County officials. These kits weren't just gifts; they were a call to action-encouraging policy support for regional recycling and environmental responsibility.

As part of its continued commitment to long-term local impact, during its Earth Week celebrations, MMRS announced a partnership with the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) to launch a Recycling Club Grant Program for elementary schools.

The initiative will fund up to 10 student-led recycling clubs-providing campuses with materials, educational resources, guest speakers, and access to an aluminum can recycling trailer. The program is designed to give students hands-on experience while fostering lifelong habits centered on sustainability.

"By reaching students early, we can help build a culture of environmental responsibility that lasts a lifetime," Vexler added. "These clubs empower young leaders to make a real difference in their schools and neighborhoods."

With Earth Week overlapping San Antonio's annual 10-day festival, Fiesta, MMRS also partnered with Therapy Animals of San Antonio to provide an aluminum can recycling trailer for its Pooch Parade.

Through its Earth Week celebrations, MMRS demonstrated how the work of the recycled materials industry drives positive change-empowering communities, supporting education, and providing the essential raw materials for the manufacturing and infrastructure we rely on every day.
