DANVILLE, Pa. - A new, state-of-the-art Electrophysiology (EP) Lab is now open at Geisinger Medical Center, expanding access to advanced heart rhythm care for patients across the region.
Located in the Hospital for Advanced Medicine, the new EP lab will support timely diagnosis and treatment of complex heart rhythm conditions in a modern, highly specialized environment. The addition brings Geisinger's invasive cardiology services to six fully operational labs, including three cardiac catheterization labs and three dedicated electrophysiology labs, helping reduce wait times and meet growing patient demand.
"This new EP lab enhances how we care for patients with heart rhythm conditions-combining advanced technology with specialized expertise to deliver safer procedures, better outcomes, and a more seamless care experience," said Pugazhendhi Vijayaraman, M.D., system chief, clinical electrophysiology.
As the need for electrophysiology services continues to rise, the expanded EP platform makes sure patients can receive specialized care closer to home. Geisinger is also recruiting more electrophysiology physicians, further strengthening its ability to serve patients quickly and effectively.
Electrophysiology focuses on diagnosing and treating abnormal heart rhythms that can cause symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, shortness of breath, or fainting. The new lab supports a full range of advanced procedures, using the latest technology to enhance precision, safety, and patient outcomes.
"Our community is at the center of all we do, and this investment reflects our commitment to our patients," said George Ruiz, M.D., system chair, cardiology. "By expanding access to advanced electrophysiology services, we're reducing barriers to care, shortening wait times, and ensuring patients can receive high quality cardiac treatment without having to travel outside of the region."
