The Fair Housing Act was designed to protect Americans from discrimination in the sale, rental and financing of housing. National Fair Housing Month each April increases efforts to end housing discrimination and raises awareness of fair housing rights. The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) investigates housing discrimination and enforces fair housing laws nationally. Working cooperatively with HUD, the Florida Commission on Human Relations is the primary state agency charged with investigating and resolving discrimination in housing.
