FOSTER FOR THE HOLIDAYS

For the first time ever, Chula Vista Animal Services (CVAS) is giving its long-term residents the ultimate holiday gift: a cozy week in a real home.

Through the new "Home for the Holidays" foster program, community members can welcome a shelter dog into their homes for just one week this holiday season, offering warmth, companionship, and comfort to the dogs who have been waiting patiently for a family of their own.

While the program brings plenty of wagging tails and heartfelt moments, it also serves an important purpose. Even a short stay in a home environment allows dogs to decompress, reveal their true personalities, and gain valuable social experience, often making them more adoptable and increasing their chances of finding a forever home.

"When our community opens their homes, even temporarily, it transforms the lives of our long-term dogs," says Yvette Mota, Foster Coordinator at CVAS. "Home for the Holidays shows how small acts of kindness can create big and lasting change."

There is no cost to participate, and no prior foster experience is required. CVAS will help match participants with a dog that fits their lifestyle and provide all necessary supplies, including food, materials, and ongoing support. Foster families simply provide a safe space, basic care, and a little bit of love.

The Home for the Holidays program begins December 15 and runs through the holiday season. Participants can select the week that works best for them. Dogs will be available for pickup at Chula Vista Animal Services, located at 130 Beyer Way, Chula Vista, CA 91911.

Those interested can complete a foster application or email [email protected] for more information.

Be a Shelter Hero this season and help a dog experience the magic of the holidays, even if just for a week.
