Chicquetta President Reed, director of the First-and Second-Year Experience program at Claflin University, is among the recipients of the 2026 Outstanding First-Year Student Advocates Award, presented by the National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition.
The National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition (NRC) at the University of South Carolina partners with Penguin Random House to honor individuals annually with the Outstanding First-Year Student Advocate Award. This award recognizes faculty, staff, and students for their work in supporting college student transitions.
Chicquetta President Reed received the 2026 Outstanding First-Year Student Advocates Award.
As the Director of First-and Second-Year Experience at Claflin University, Reed works to maintain leadership roles, retention rates, and overall student engagement for first-and second-year students.
She acts as a guide and support system for new and transferring students as they navigate their first years at Claflin by fostering their academic and professional minds.
Reed is also an adjunct professor in the School of Business, and she holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Winston-Salem State University. She earned an MBA from Charleston Southern University.
Reed is a published author, motivational speaker, and Gallup Certified Strengths Coach. At the core of her work and success is her love for family, whose support and values continue to shape her leadership and passion for empowering students.
