Coffey Issues Statement after Veto Session Adjourned at 4:00 AM

October 31, 2025

Well, I can't say I'm surprised that Illinois House Democrats passed several bad bills until 4:00 AM that will raise taxes on hardworking Illinois families. From expanding sanctuary state policies to passing $2.5 billion in new spending for mass transit (Sweeping Road Funds), one thing is clear- our last day in Veto Session was a complete insult to every Illinois taxpayer.

Additionally, Democrats supported decoupling Illinois from the federal tax code which will result in tax increase for Illinois businesses.

This Veto Session was very expensive for taxpayers and I'm appalled by how the state of Illinois conducts business. At what point does accountability come into play?
