Filing Deadling for Homestead & Age 65 School Tax Exemptions is April 1

The Forsyth County Assessors Office reminds residents about the approaching deadline to file for homestead exemptions as well as the age 65 school tax exemption for this tax year.

Residential property owners in Forsyth County that reside on that property and are a legal resident of the County, all as of Jan. 1 of the tax year, qualify for homestead exemption. Applications for exemptions can be filed year-round but must be sent in by Wednesday, April 1, to receive the benefits for 2026.

Regular and floating homestead exemption applications as well as applications for the age 65 school tax exemption are available for online submission through the online Smartfile Tax Exemption Application tool.

For information on all tax exemptions as well as how to apply online or in-person, click here to visit the Board of Assessors webpage.
