Nearly $950,000 Coming to Carbon County Schools for Safety, Behavioral Health Improvements

HARRISBURG - Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-122) and Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) announced several schools in Carbon County will be receiving nearly $950,000 to make learning environments safer and provide behavioral health support for students and staff.

The grants were approved through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency's (PCCD) School Safety and Security Committee.

"I support student safety and security," Heffley said. "A school should be a place where students, staff and parents feel safe. This funding goes to support that sentiment by enhancing security and the behavioral health services available to students and staff."

The total amount awarded to each school is as follows:

• Carbon County Career and Technical Institute - $70,000
• Jim Thorpe Area School District - $180,496
• Lehighton Area School District - $197,983
• Palmerton Area School District - $176,992
• Panther Valley School District - $190,682
• Weatherly Area School District - $126,938

The PCCD's School Safety and Security Committee administers programs designed to improve school safety and security, strengthen behavioral health supports, and provide training and technical assistance to schools across Pennsylvania.
