RACQ bolsters resources in wake of TC Koji

RACQ's Mobile Member Centre (MMC), a purpose-built facility to provide on the ground member support after a severe weather event, has arrived in Mackay. The MMC is located at the Mackay Showgrounds, 24 Milton Street, Mackay from 9am - 4:30pm.

Chief Executive RACQ Insurance Trent Sayers is in Mackay today, meeting with members, local stakeholders and employees including claims support staff across the region.

RACQ members who experience prolonged power outages can access food spoilage payments under their contents insurance policy. These payments are made quickly, and you don't have to pay an excess if your claim is only for food spoilage. If you're impacted, the fastest way to lodge your claim is online or call us on 13 72 02. You don't need to have your policy number with you to make a claim - we have all that information and can help you through the claims process.

RACQ teams are on stand-by to assist members and communities impacted by Tropical Cyclone Koji with additional resources, including the Mobile Member Centre, set to deploy where needed as soon as it is safe to do so.

Chief Executive RACQ Insurance Trent Sayers said RACQ teams were working tirelessly to assess the situation and coordinate their response within affected areas across North Queensland and the central coast.

"Our thoughts are with those who have been impacted by the cyclonic winds and severe rain," Mr Sayers said.

"As soon as it's safe, we encourage members to lodge their claim online and upload photos of damage via the online portal or call us on .

"We can then arrange emergency make-safe work, discuss any temporary accommodation and immediate needs that may be supported with emergency payments.

"Members who experience prolonged power outages can also access food spoilage payments under their contents insurance policy.

"We have increased our capacity to receive calls, and process claims and we will have teams on the ground to support members as soon as we can."

Mr Sayers reminded members to stay safe.

"While lodging your claim is important, safety is the number one priority and we urge the community to listen to emergency warnings and advice," he said.

"RACQ's roadside assistance teams are ready to help those in need and the teams are continuing to reach people as soon as they can.

"We urge drivers to avoid the roads and stay at home. This will allow emergency responders, including our crews, to move more safely so they can continue to help those in need.

With heavy rain and flash flooding expected to continue, Mr Sayers assured RACQ Insurance policy holders right across the State that RACQ's home and contents policies cover claims arising from cyclone, flood, storm and storm surge events.

Preparing your claim:

If you can safely return home:

• Making notes and taking photos of your belongings will make it easier to submit any claims.
• It's OK to throw away all spoiled food in your refrigerator - you don't need to wait for an assessor to visit your home. Take a picture before throwing food away.
• Keep a record of model numbers or serial numbers of items you are throwing away to help us replace them.
• It's OK to remove material and fabrics such as carpets if they are wet to avoid mould growing. Take a photo to help with replacement.
• Make a list of essentials you will need to replace, such as bedding, clothing and food. Keep all receipts from these purchases.
• Remember safety is the number one priority.
