Brief Summary of Presentation:
Retinal ribbon-style synapses (RRSs), elaborated by the first two neurons in the visual pathway, convey visual information over many log units of dynamic range. Their remarkable signaling abilities are supported, in part, by unusual isoforms of common presynaptic proteins. One of these is syntaxin3B (Stx3B), a t-SNARE protein that we have found to be essential for human vision. In this seminar, I will present our work on the roles of Stx3B and the impact of modulating Stx3B function on exocytosis and the transmission of visual information across the mammalian retina.
