WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) released the following statement after voting against an extension of Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) Section 702 without any guardrails:
"Section 702 is a powerful foreign intelligence tool, but I will not support extending a program that is already being used to conduct backdoor searches on Americans without a warrant," said Rep. Correa. "We need guardrails, especially when this Administration is tapping someone as Director of National Intelligence who has a history of weaponizing the power of the federal government for political purposes. We need reforms now to protect Americans from unconstitutional surveillance. I remain committed to working with my colleagues to add guardrails that will protect both our national security and civil liberties."
