Maybank is expanding the cross-border QR payment capabilities of the MAE App through its integration with Alipay+, enabling customers to now make QR payments via Scan & Pay in China, South Korea, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Laos.

Maybank expands cross-border QR payments to five new markets including China, integrating with Alipay+ to enable seamless travel payments across the region.

The enhancement reinforces Maybank's commitment to delivering a more seamless payment experience for customers travelling overseas, allowing them to enjoy a familiar and convenient way to pay while continuing to use MAE App as their primary banking app for their everyday banking needs. In addition to the listed markets, Scan & Pay via MAE App is also available in Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia.

Customers can conveniently make overseas QR payments using Scan & Pay on the MAE App, with no separate app download or Alipay+ account registration required. To provide greater transparency when spending overseas, customers can review the transaction amount in both the local currency and Ringgit Malaysia before confirming payment.

Syed Ahmad Taufik Albar, Group CEO of Community Financial Services, Maybank, said, "Supported by PayNet's cross-border payments network, the integration with Alipay+ expands the reach of MAE Scan & Pay to more markets, giving customers greater flexibility to make QR payments when travelling overseas. As of September 2026, we have seen very encouraging year-to-date growth of almost 80% in total cross-border transactions, compared with the year before. This demonstrates strong customer adoption and the growing role of QR payments in consumer spending."

Beyond QR payments, customers can also use Maybank Global Access Account-i to manage and make payments in multiple currencies. By December 2026, it will add five additional currencies namely Chinese Yuan, Thai Baht, Indonesian Rupiah, Vietnamese Dong and Cambodian Riel, bringing the total to 23 supported currencies.

Maybank continues to strengthen its cross-border payment ecosystem by expanding QR payment acceptance and broadening its multi-currency capabilities, reinforcing its role in meeting customers' financial needs beyond Malaysia. Together, these offerings provide customers with more ways to pay and manage their money overseas.
