Assistant Fire Chief Raymond Hill was appointed interim fire chief on Tuesday, Oct. 28, after Fort Worth City Council approved the resolution.
City Manager Jay Chapa appointed Hill to serve as chief of the Fort Worth Fire Department (FWFD) on an interim basis effective at noon on Oct. 31. He will be interim chief until the City completes the selection process for a new fire chief and names a successor.
Hill has been with the Fire Department for 31 years, joining as a firefighter in December 1994. He worked his way up through every rank until becoming assistant chief of educational and logistical services in July 2018. As assistant chief, he held multiple responsibilities, including managing recruit training, in-service training, the Office of Emergency Management, personal protective equipment and supply, portions of facility maintenance, fire apparatus and vehicle services, personnel health and wellness, the Fire Alarm Office (FAO) and the SCBA (Air) Shop.
Hill holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Texas at El Paso, an associate of science degree from Tarrant County College, a master of science degree from Amberton University and an associate degree in Fire Science from Columbia Southern University.
"Chief Hill is a proven leader with the Fort Worth Fire Department who brings a depth of knowledge and decades of experience to this interim role," Chapa said.
