Chairman Cassidy Advances Nominees for Surgeon General, SAMHSA, and National Mediation Board

WASHINGTON - Today, the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee voted to favorably report multiple Trump administration nominees at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and National Mediation Board. Dr. Nicole Saphier, Dr. Timothy Westlake, and Ms. Mary Lazare were advanced en bloc by a party-line vote of 12-11. Ms. Loren Sweatt and Mr. Douglas Ralph were also advanced en bloc by a party-line vote of 12-11. All nominations will now move to the Senate floor for a final vote at a later date.

"Dr. Saphier, Dr. Westlake, Ms. Lazare, Ms. Sweatt, and Mr. Ralph have the qualifications and the integrity necessary to do the jobs they are nominated for," said Dr. Cassidy.

The approved nominations include:

• Nicole Saphier to be Medical Director in the Regular Corps of the Public Health Service and Surgeon General of the Public Health Service, Department of Health and Human Services.
• Timothy Westlake to be Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use, Department of Health and Human Services.
• Mary Lazare to be Assistant Sectary for Aging, Department of Health and Human Services.
• Loren Sweatt to be a Member of the National Mediation Board.
• Douglas Ralph to be a Member of the National Mediation Board.
