Ki‘i Kon Teen Art Contest: Reimagine Your Favorite Book Cover!

Posted on: November 3, 2025 | Category: Community

Hawai'i teens, get ready to unleash your creativity! The Ki'i Kon Art Contest, presented by the Friends of the Library of Hawai'i and the Hawai'i State Public Library System, invites young artists ages 13-17 to reimagine the front cover of their favorite book or graphic novel. Whether you love drawing by hand or designing digitally, this is your chance to show off your skills, express your unique style, and bring a beloved story to life. Each participant can submit one original artwork in either the physical or digital category, and all entries must be the artist's own work (AI-generated art isn't allowed).

Parents, here's a wonderful opportunity to support your teen's artistic and literary passions. Winners will not only see their artwork displayed at local libraries, but the two grand prize winners-one for physical and one for digital art-will enjoy an exclusive meet-and-greet with a professional comic or graphic artist, with travel expenses covered for the winner and a parent or guardian. Second and third place winners will also receive exciting prizes, making this a contest that celebrates creativity at every level.

Submitting is easy! Upload your original artwork through the online form by 11:59 PM HST on January 15, 2026, including your name, age, home library branch, parental consent, category, and the title of the book you're reimagining. Don't miss this chance to combine your love of art and literature, gain recognition across the islands, and have an unforgettable creative experience.

For full contest rules and submission information, visit the Ki'i Kon Art Contest website.
