The World Food Prize Foundation today announced that Carter Scallon has joined its staff as Coordinator II, Administrative Operations and Youth Programs.
"Carter's background aligns directly with the dual priorities of this role," said Mashal Husain, President, World Food Prize Foundation. "He brings hands-on experience in environmental education and community engagement, along with the operational discipline needed to help steward a high-performance, LEED Platinum facility. From coordinating youth programming to working with building vendors and supporting sustainability benchmarks, he will contribute across both mission delivery and day-to-day operations."
In his role at the Foundation, Scallon will support both youth programming and the operational management of the Hall of Laureates. He will coordinate student engagement initiatives, manage program logistics and contribute to partnership development across the Foundation's global youth network.
In administrative operations, Scallon will play a key role in maintaining and advancing the Hall of Laureates, a LEED Platinum-certified facility recognized for the highest standards in energy efficiency and sustainable design. His responsibilities include managing vendor relationships for building systems and maintenance, coordinating facility operations and supporting ongoing compliance with LEED performance standards, including energy use, environmental quality and sustainable site management.
"Growing up in Iowa, the Hall of Laureates has always represented innovation and global impact for me," said Scallon. "Being able to help maintain and support a historically significant, LEED-certified facility while contributing to programs that equip the next generation of leaders makes this role especially meaningful."
Scallon brings significant international experience to the role, having served as a Community Conservation Promoter with the Peace Corps in Chiriquí, Panama, from 2023 to 2025. Working full time in a Spanish-speaking community, he taught environmental education to Kindergarten through 9th grade students, developed organic gardening and conservation initiatives, and coordinated community-wide programming that connected schools, families, and local partners. His work emphasized practical, place-based learning and cross-cultural collaboration to advance sustainability at the community level.
After his Peace Corps service, Scallon worked as a naturalist with West Des Moines Parks and Recreation, where he designed and led immersive, hands-on day camps for youth. He developed curriculum, managed daily logistics and ensured safe, inclusive program delivery while working closely with families and staff. He also served as a park ranger at Acadia National Park, where he provided visitor education, safety guidance and public programming.
Scallon earned a Bachelor of Science in community and regional planning from Iowa State University in 2022.
