Torrance to Host Armed Forces Day Parade and Celebration with Program Updates Reflecting Current Military Commitments

The City of Torrance is less than one month away from its long-standing tradition of honoring the nation's military with its annual Armed Forces Day Celebration, taking place May 15-17, 2026. This beloved community event will once again feature a parade, military and community exhibit, and a 5K run hosted by the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce.

This year's celebration comes with unique challenges. Due to the ongoing conflict in Iran, the U.S. Department of War has directed all military branches to refrain from participating in public events and has restricted the use of military assets. With U.S. military resources currently prioritized for active operations and increased deployments related to the conflict in Iran, the availability of personnel and equipment for public events has been significantly reduced. While this impacts traditional military involvement, the City of Torrance remains committed to moving forward with a meaningful and memorable celebration.

"Although we are navigating unforeseen circumstances, and global events are placing new demands on our military, Torrance remains steadfast in our commitment to honor the men and women who serve our country," said Torrance Mayor George K. Chen. "We invite the community to come together in support of our Armed Forces and to celebrate America's 250th birthday."
Attendees can look forward to an exciting line up of events:

  • Armed Forces Day Exhibit: May 15-17, 2026 (hours vary each day) at its new location, the Torrance City Yard.
  • Stars and Strides 5K: May 16 at 8:00 a.m., at its new location near the Sports Complex on Maple Avenue and Civic Center Drive.
  • Armed Forces Day Parade: May 16 at 1:30 p.m., along Torrance Boulevard from Crenshaw Blvd to Madrona Avenue.

"Our department takes great pride in ensuring it is carried out safely and successfully," said Lt. Charles Fisher of the Torrance Police Department's Traffic Division. "Despite the limitations this year, we are working in close coordination with our partners to ensure a safe, organized, and meaningful experience where the community can come together to honor our Armed Forces."

The expanded exhibit will include new attractions such as food trucks and a family-friendly kids zone hosted by the Torrance Police Foundation, making it an engaging destination for visitors of all ages. Military recruitment will also be on site. And to improve accessibility, Torrance Transit will provide convenient pick-up and drop-off service to the exhibit throughout the weekend from the Mary K. Giordano Regional Transit Center.
