UToledo to Lend Experts, Insights to Great Lakes AI Week

Great Lakes AI Week is coming to northwest Ohio.

The University of Toledo is a sponsor of the event that kicks off on Tuesday, Nov. 4, bringing together academic researchers, business leaders, policy makers and more for educational programming exploring how artificial intelligence is transforming fields including manufacturing, healthcare, logistics and financial services.

UToledo's College of Medicine and Life Sciences and UToledo Health, in collaboration with the Office of Continuing Medical Education, will host the AI in Healthcare Symposium Friday, Nov. 7, on Health Science Campus.

UToledo will lend several faculty experts to panels, workshops and other events on Wednesday, Nov. 5, and Thursday, Nov. 6, at Bowling Green State University.

These include Dean Barbara Ritter of the John B. and Lillian E. Neff College of Business and Innovation, plus Neff College of Business faculty Dr. Heba Abdel-Rahim, Dr. Tyler Hancock, Susan Shultz and Dr. Paul Hong; Dr. George Choueiri and Dr. Arun Nadarajah of the College of Engineering; Dr. Michael Toland of the Herb Innovation Center at the Judith Herb College of Arts, Social Sciences and Education; and Dr. William McCreary, chief information officer and chief technology officer at the University.

UToledo will also welcome the community for several affiliated events on Main Campus and Health Science Campus, including a series of certification workshops sponsored by JobsOhio on Tuesday, Nov. 4; a discussion on artificial intelligence and sports on Wednesday, Nov. 5; and an AI in Healthcare Symposium on Friday, Nov. 7.

"Great Lakes AI Week is an opportunity to explore how artificial intelligence is transforming our world," said Dr. Mitchell McKinney, provost and executive vice president of academic affairs at UToledo. "We're excited to support this regional effort and to welcome the community to UToledo."

Tuesday, Nov. 4

UToledo's College of Engineering will host a series of hands-on workshops from 1 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4, in the North Engineering Building. The workshops, sponsored by JobsOhio, are designed to help professionals, business leaders and teams strengthen their artificial intelligence knowledge and practical readiness while connecting with peers across the region.

Wednesday, Nov. 5

UToledo's Dr. Barbara Ritter and Bryan Blair will host "Game On: How AI is Changing the Future of Sports," featuring Ben Levicki, the artificial intelligence solutions architect for the Cleveland Cavaliers, at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, in Memorial Field House Room 2100.

Ritter is dean of the Neff College of Business and Innovation, and Blair is vice president and director of athletics at UToledo. They will engage Levicki in a discussion on how artificial intelligence is transforming the business and performance sides of professional sports, offering a rare inside look at how cutting-edge artificial intelligence applications are redefining sports strategy and fan experience.

Friday, Nov. 7

UToledo's College of Medicine and Life Sciences and UToledo Health, in collaboration with the Office of Continuing Medical Education, will host the AI in Healthcare Symposium from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, in the Collier Building Room 1000B on Health Science Campus.

UToledo and UToledo Health experts will explore current and future applications of artificial intelligence in healthcare to advance biomedical research, educate future healthcare professionals and support patient-focused clinicians and administrators.

Great Lakes AI Week is organized by the Enterprise Technology Association.

UToledo President James Holloway and BGSU President Rodney Rodgers will kick off Great Lakes AI Week alongside Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, at the Toledo Lucas County Public Library, 325 N. Michigan St., Toledo.

All events are free for students, while faculty and staff can request free passes online.
