Congressman Cohen Announces Sickle Cell Research Grant to St. Jude

WASHINGTON - Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive a grant of $830,254 for research into sickle cell disease from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute under the direction of Dr. Mitchell J. Weiss. St. Jude also received a $277,500 grantin August to study the disease.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"Working to alleviate the trauma and pain associated with sickle cell disease, which disproportionately affects the Black community, will improve lives. I commend Dr. Weiss and St. Jude for undertaking this important work."
