Suozzi Appointed to Select Committee on Strategic Competition with the Chinese Communist Party

June 8, 2026

Washington, DC. - Congressman Tom Suozzi (NY-03) today announced his appointment to the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party.

"It is a great honor to be appointed by Leader Jeffries to this prestigious Select Committee and to succeed now-Governor Mikie Sherrill in this role," said Suozzi. "We must recognize that we are in a strategic competition with the Chinese Communist Party. This competition affects our economy, our national security, and our geopolitical standing in the world."

Suozzi has been a leading voice in Congress on human rights issues in China, helping launch the Congressional Uyghur Caucus and serving on the Congressional-Executive Commission on China.

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced Suozzi's appointment, citing his longstanding commitment to advancing America's economic growth, protecting national security, and defending human rights.

"Today, I am honored to appoint Rep. Tom Suozzi to the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party," said Rep. Hakeem Jeffries. "Throughout his entire career, Congressman Suozzi has been an incredible advocate for a principled foreign policy that improves our international competitiveness, advances our economic growth and protects America's national security. Within the Congress, Tom has also championed the fight against human rights abuses carried out by the CCP, launching the Congressional Uyghur Caucus and serving on the Congressional-Executive Commission on the People's Republic of China. He will be an important and strong voice for American values on the Select Committee."

The Select Committee examines the economic, technological, and security challenges posed by the Chinese Communist Party and develops bipartisan recommendations to strengthen America's competitive position globally.
