KSAT 12 News Highlights 50-Year Milestone for KRTU 91.7 FM

KSAT 12 News ran a feature about KRTU 91.7 FM , the student-run jazz and indie radio station at Trinity University, as it celebrates its 50th anniversary since debuting on January 23, 1976. Beginning with just 50 watts of power, KRTU is now broadcasting citywide and online. It is one of the few remaining jazz stations in Texas and the U.S. The nonprofit, public station, operated largely by students and supported by community volunteers, offers deep, curated jazz programming by day and indie rock overnight, providing students with hands-on experience in management, marketing, and broadcasting while connecting listeners to meaningful music and stories.

To mark the milestone, KRTU is hosting a free public concert featuring Grammy-nominated artist Jazzmeia Horn on Friday, January 23, honoring the station's legacy of artistic impact, community engagement, and evolving sound. Watch or read the full story here .
