Horne Joins Federation as Legislative and Policy Assistant

A Barbour County native with deep ties to agriculture has joined the Alabama Farmers Federation in fighting for farmers as legislative and policy assistant. Laura Beth Horne began her new role Monday in the External Affairs Department, where she supports the organization's advocacy work with state government.

"Laura Beth grew up on a farm and understands the challenges and opportunities Alabama farmers face each day," said Department Director Brian Hardin. "Her enthusiasm and communications skills will complement the talents of our lobbying team as we work to amplify farmers' voices at the State House and beyond. Laura Beth will be able hit the ground running because of her prior work experience and deep relationships with Federation members."

Horne earned a bachelor's degree in marketing with a minor in communications from Auburn University. While a student, she interned with Gov. Kay Ivey's office and twice with Alfa Insurance before taking a fulltime job as an aspiring Alfa agent upon graduation. Although she valued her work with customers and coworkers, Horne said she is thankful for the opportunity to follow her heart and advocate for farmers.

"I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to join the team at the Alabama Farmers Federation," Horne said. "Agriculture has always been an important part of my life, and having grown up in a farming family, I know firsthand how much hard work and dedication goes into the industry. I am excited to learn more about the legislative process and use this experience to advocate for Alabama's farmers and agricultural communities. I am honored to have the opportunity to serve our producers and represent an industry that means so much to me."

As legislative and policy assistant, Horne will conduct research, track legislative activities, support the Federation's grassroots policy development process, assist with member communications and help keep up with dozens of boards and commissions whose work impacts rural families.

The farmers she's so passionate about serving include her father, Trip, a beef cattle and poultry farmer who represents Barbour, Bullock, Coffee, Covington, Crenshaw and Pike counties on the Federation and Alfa boards as District 10 director.

Horne rounds out the Federation's External Affairs team, which includes Hardin, Assistant Department Director Preston Roberts, Agricultural Legislation Director Russ Durrance and State Legislative Programs Director Grace Heim. The 2026 Regular Session of the Alabama Legislature convenes Feb 2.
