Collision on Trinity Lane Claims Motorcyclist

The motorcyclist killed in Thursday's 9 p.m. collision on Trinity Lane near Scruggs Lane is identified as Elliot Carter, 31, of Nashville.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of an eastbound Mazda MZ3 sedan entered the left turn lane and as he was turning into a parking lot, was struck in the passenger side by the motorcycle. Carter was transported to Skyline Medical Center where he died.

Prior to the collision, an officer facing Trinity Lane saw Carter's motorcycle pass at a high rate of speed. Moments later, the officer drove up to the crash site. The driver of the Mazda reported that he did not see the motorcyclist prior to making the left turn. Video evidence suggests that Carter was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed prior to the collision.
