Department of Public Safety, CMOCC Empower Rising Scholars

Denver - The Department of Public Safety, in partnership with the Colorado Men of Color Collaborative (CMOCC), are proud to announce the conclusion of their first two-day Summer Leadership, Workforce & Public Safety Initiative.

Held on August 6 and August 13, 2026, the program brought together individuals aged 10-22 years old for an experience designed to equip the next generation of leaders with career skills, public safety exposure, and a sense of community.

"The Department of Public Safety is committed to providing essential public safety services with a clear focus on community development and engagement," said Department of Public Safety Executive Director Al Gardner II. "Working with local organizations like CMOCC allows us to offer tomorrow's leaders a unique opportunity to meet executives and frontline professionals within Denver's public safety network."

Throughout the program, participants had hands-on learning experiences focused on leadership development, mentorship and exposure to public safety careers. These experiences included touring Denver Fire Department Station 1, exploring the Denver Crime Lab and seeing firsthand how Denver 9-1-1 directs the city's public safety response system.

Mentors and speakers represented the Denver Police Department, Denver Sheriff Department, Denver International Airport, Denver Police Crime Lab, Denver 9-1-1, Denver Fire Department and other City and County leadership teams.

Workshops in between speaker sessions focused on building communications skills, career readiness, civic engagement and community safety strategies.

The Department of Public Safety recognizes the Denver Police Department, Denver Sheriff Department, Denver International Airport, Denver Police Crime Lab, Denver 9-1-1, and the Denver Fire Department for their assistance hosting the event.

Future events and collaboration between the Department of Public Safety and community partners are expected.
