WICHITA, KAN. - A convicted child sex offender was sentenced to 180 months in prison for possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
According to court documents, James Yohn, 63, of Alden, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of CSAM.
In August 2022, law enforcement was attempting to identify subjects engaged in the distribution of CSAM using an online file-sharing network. They determined a user going by "Jimbo" had shared multiple videos of prepubescent children subjected to sex acts. An investigation linked the IP address to a home with an associated Recreational Vehicle (RV) in Rice County connected to James Yohn. Yohn was convicted of Indecent Liberties with a Child in Reno County in 1994.
In January 2023, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Yohn's home in Rice County and found numerous devices and compact discs containing CSAM and peer-to-peer file-sharing clients containing CSAM.
"Despite a prior conviction involving a child victim, Mr. Yohn chose to possess and collect child sexual abuse material," said U.S. Attorney Ryan A. Kriegshauser. "These offenses are not victimless crimes. The sentence imposed reflects the serious harm caused by the exploitation of children and our determination to hold repeat offenders accountable."
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) investigated the case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Katie Andrusak prosecuted the case.
