WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Cleo Fields (LA-06) released the following statement today after voting in support of the ACA Subsidies Extension:
"Today, I voted without hesitation in support of extending Affordable Care Act subsidies, reaffirming my strong commitment to lowering health care costs and protecting access to quality care for families across our communities, both locally and nationally. These subsidies are vital to addressing the health care affordability crisis affecting millions of Americans.
As I've said before, the people of Louisiana should not have to choose between putting food on the table, keeping the lights on, and being able to go to the doctor. Under the current circumstances, this rings true now more than ever.
It is not an exaggeration to say that the urgency of this moment is paramount. We cannot wait any longer. When Americans are forced to ration and stockpile life-saving medicine, Congress has a moral obligation to act-and to act now!
Failing to restore and protect access to affordable health care will only drive-up costs in the long run. Untreated medical conditions lead to more serious health complications, higher costs of care, and longer wait times in already overburdened emergency rooms- where too many Americans are forced to seek treatment as a last resort.
I want to make it clear that my vote reflects a broader principle: put people ahead of politics and ensure that government works for those it serves.
