By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is home to the Virginia Community College System (VCCS), a statewide network of 23 community colleges that provide high-quality, affordable pathways to higher education for Virginians; and
WHEREAS, the VCCS serves more than a quarter million students each year, offering associate degrees, workforce credentials, transfer opportunities, and training programs; and
WHEREAS, Virginia's community colleges partner closely with local employers, industries, and community organizations to meet regional workforce needs and ensure that students gain the skills and credentials necessary for success in a rapidly changing economy; and
WHEREAS, faculty, staff, and administrators across the VCCS demonstrate exceptional dedication to student achievement, innovation, and equitable access to education, helping Virginians pursue meaningful careers and lifelong learning; and
WHEREAS, community colleges serve as engines of opportunity, providing flexible learning options, workforce training, and essential support services that benefit individuals, families, and communities throughout the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Community College Month offers an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the essential contributions of Virginia's community colleges and the students they serve;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, do hereby recognize April 2026, as COMMUNITY COLLEGE MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and encourage all Virginians to support and celebrate the students, educators, and institutions that make the Virginia Community College System a cornerstone of opportunity and progress across our Commonwealth.
