University of Delaware community reports new appointments, presentations and publications

For the Record provides information about recent professional activities and honors of University of Delaware faculty, staff, students and alumni.

Recent appointments, presentations and publications include the following:

Appointments

Harsh Bais, plant and soil sciences professor, has been named the Unidel Crawford H. Greenwalt Endowed Chair in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Bais' research aims to integrate plant biology, plant-microbe interactions and chemistry in multidisciplinary work that reveals new insights into the complex interactions that shape plant health and ecosystem dynamics. This named professorship honors the late Crawford H. Greenwalt, who served in multiple roles at DuPont from 1948 to 1972, including president and CEO, DuPont chairman and head of DuPont's finance committee.

Presentations

On Oct. 23, 2026, both Margaret Stetz, Mae and Robert Carter Professor of Women's Studies and professor of humanities, and Mark Samuels Lasner, senior research fellow emeritus, UD Library, Museums and Press, were invited participants at an online event organized by the William Morris Society in the U.S. (Samuels Lasner is a former president of the society and is currently on its Board of Directors.) At this event, which highlighted new critical approaches to the British Arts and Crafts Movement of the late-19th century, Stetz talked about the upcoming exhibition that she and Samuels Lasner are curating at the Grolier Club in New York City, which opens in September 2027 and features work by Charles Ricketts (1866-1931), who was not only a book artist, but a designer of jewelry. Samuels Lasner discussed the significance of a design created by the Arts-and-Crafts artist Walter Crane (1845-1915) for the First Universal Races Congress, held in London in 1911, which served as its official seal and was later reproduced on the cover of The Crisis, edited by W. E. B. Du Bois. The original drawing of that design for the seal is now in the Mark Samuels Lasner Collection at the UD Library.

Publications

Amish Trivedi, assistant professor of English, has a new poem, entitled "The Chameleon Effect," published in The American Poetry Review, Volume 55, No. 6 (November/December 2026).
