City of Valdosta Provides Update on 96-Gallon Garbage Container Collection Policies

The City of Valdosta Public Works Department is providing an important update regarding residential garbage collection and the use of City-issued 96-gallon garbage containers.

Effective Tuesday, January 6, all City of Valdosta 96-gallon garbage containers will continue to be collected, even if a container is overfilled. However, residents should be aware of the following collection guidelines:

No collection of non-City garbage containers. These are considered unpaid containers and will not be serviced.

No collection of loose or extra garbage placed on the ground next to City-issued containers.

During January and February, the Public Works Department will be installing cameras on all garbage trucks. These cameras will allow the City to document collection activity and capture photos showing the number of garbage containers serviced at each stop.

At the same time, tablets are being prepared for use by sanitation crews. These tablets will:

List each customer scheduled for service

Verify the number of paid garbage containers assigned to each address

Help ensure accurate and efficient weekly collection

Additional Garbage Cans Available

Residents who need additional 96-gallon garbage containers may purchase extra City-issued containers for a fee of $8.00 per month per container.

The City strongly encourages customers to assess their household needs and purchase additional containers during January and February, if necessary.

Important Upcoming Change

Beginning in March, the City of Valdosta will begin addressing extra unpaid 96-gallon garbage containers that are placed out for collection without being properly registered and paid for.

The City of Valdosta appreciates the cooperation of residents as these improvements are implemented to ensure fair, efficient, and accountable sanitation services for the community.
