Outbound Dan Ryan local lanes overnight closures Saturday

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that as part of ongoing efforts to repair the bridge carrying 63rd Street over the Dan Ryan Expressway (Interstate 90/94), in Chicago, overnight ramp and lane closures are scheduled to take place, weather permitting, Saturday, July, 18. The closures are necessary to safely install steel support beams over the expressway.

Starting at 9 p.m. Saturday, lane closures begin on the outbound Dan Ryan local lanes, between 47th and 63rd streets. At 1 a.m., the local lanes will fully close, and traffic will be diverted onto the express lanes near 47th Street. Also, trucks will be allowed to use the outbound Dan Ryan express lanes during this time.

At the same time the following ramps will close: 47th Street, 55th Street (Garfield Boulevard), 59th Street and the entrance ramp to the Chicago Skyway (I-90).

  • Detour to access the Chicago Skyway: continue south on the Ryan, exit 79th Street (east) to State Street (north) to reenter the expressway (inbound), exit Marquette Road (67th Street) to State Street (north) to access the Skyway.

The express lanes and inbound Dan Ryan will not be impacted. The lanes and ramps that were closed overnight will reopen by 8 a.m. Sunday.

The overall project is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
