Trades can't be officially lodged or processed by the league over the weekend, but that doesn't mean there hasn't been movement.

Essendon have emerged as a potential destination for Geelong's Gryan Miers, as the 2022 premiership forward continues to be linked to rivals following a season impacted by a torn ACL he opted to play through.

Collingwood, meanwhile, are facing a setback in their bid to add Richmond dual premiership player Jayden Short to fellow veterans Jesse Hogan and Lachie Neale in a bumper trade period.

With AFL rules requiring clubs to use at least three picks at the draft - though that can include elevating rookies to the senior list - the Pies are facing a list squeeze as they look to add Short and Carlton ruckman Flynn Riley.

With Hogan and Neale, they have 33 players on their senior list, and with the club confirming they're keen to add new faces via the draft, AFL.com.au's Callum Twomey reports that rivals are aware that this could impact the club's pursuit of the Tigers half-back.

Port Adelaide have the chance to continue to improve their bumper draft haul, with Richmond, Essendon, Carlton and West Coast all expressing interest in the No. 5 compensation pick they secured out of Butters' move to the Bulldogs.

The Power can all but match a bid for father-son gun Dougie Cochrane with pick 1 using only their picks 7 and 12, giving them the option of moving on their fifth pick … if an offer catches their eye.
