Joe Kloc Joins Times Opinion

I'm delighted to announce that Joe Kloc is joining Opinion as a staff editor to work with me to edit, curate and produce the print incarnations of the Opinion report.

Joe was most recently a senior editor at Harper's magazine, where for seven years he ran the Readings section. He previously spent four years as the editor of the magazine's website and its newsletter, Weekly Review. His writing has appeared in Harper's, The New York Review of Books, New York magazine and The New York Times Magazine.

Joe is the author of "Lost at Sea: Poverty and Paradise Collide at the Edge of America" (2025), for which he spent nine years reporting on the destruction of a century-old unhoused community living on abandoned boats in one of California's wealthiest counties. His Harper's article on this subject was a finalist for a National Magazine Award in feature writing in 2019.

Joe's former colleagues at Harper's describe him as diplomatic, sensitive, funny and expert at juggling lots of little problems all the time - skills that will no doubt be essential in this role.

Welcome, Joe.
