City Manager Richard D. Chess, MBA, has completed his thorough and comprehensive review of the finalists for the position of Police Chief and has selected David M. Smith, Commander of Eastern District Operations for the Prince William County Police Department in Virginia, as his choice to lead the Fort Pierce Police Department.
Commander Smith brings 24 years of distinguished law enforcement experience, including previous service as Commander of the Personnel Bureau and extensive leadership in patrol operations, personnel management, strategic planning, and community engagement. His educational background includes a Graduate Certificate in Criminal Justice Education, a Master of Arts in Executive Leadership, and a Bachelor of Science in Management, underscoring his preparation for leading a modern, community-focused police department.

City Manager Chess will formally present his recommendation to the Fort Pierce City Commission at the regular meeting scheduled for December 8, where the Commission will discuss and consider the appointment.
