I-91 Northbound and Southbound Traffic Shifts Over Grape Brook in in Enfield

8/31/2026

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that traffic shifts will be implemented on I-91 northbound and southbound in Enfield for the replacement of the bridge carrying I-91 over Grape Brook. Beginning September 10, 2026, traffic will be shifted toward the right in both directions to facilitate the pre-stage of construction. The traffic shifts are expected to remain in place for approximately one month to accommodate the next phase of construction, which includes work in the median area.

Construction is anticipated to be performed in five stages: a pre-stage, three construction stages, and a post-stage. During the three construction stages, approximately one-third of the proposed precast concrete box culvert will be installed during each stage. Three lanes of traffic in both directions of I-91 will be maintained throughout construction.

CTDOT Project No. 0048-0200 was awarded to Waters Construction Company, Inc. at a cost of $13,724,834.65 on January 8, 2026, and is scheduled to be completed November 25, 2027. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1 in Rocky Hill.

LANE CLOSURE INFO

There will be lane closures from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Traffic control signing patterns and State Troopers will guide motorists through the work zone.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
