Minister of Foreign Affairs Briefs Diplomatic Corps on Thailand's Foreign Policy, Outcomes of the High-level Week of the 80th United Nations General Assembly, and the Thailand-Cambodia Situation

On 1 October 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Thailand convened a briefing for members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of international organizations accredited to Thailand. The session was chaired by H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs, accompanied by Mr. Piyapak Sricharoen, Director-General of the Department of East Asian Affairs, and Ms. Pinsuda Jayanama, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations.

The purpose of the briefing was to present the foreign policy vision of the new Government, which is a commitment to making the next four months meaningful for Thailand's diplomacy. The Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted Thailand's multi-dimensional and multi-directional approach to foreign policy, ensuring it serves the interests of the country and its people.

The Foreign Minister reported on Thailand's participation in the High-level Week of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), held in New York from 25 - 29 September 2025. Thailand used the platform to place itself back on the global radar by reaffirming its commitment to multilateralism. Furthermore, Thailand presented its vision to the international community on key issues such as the situation in Myanmar, Thailand-Cambodia border situation, as well as the situation in Ukraine and in the Middle East.

The Foreign Minister also underscored Thailand's policy to restore peace and stability along the Thai-Cambodian border. He reaffirmed Thailand's readiness to resolve outstanding issues constructively and peacefully with its neighbor through existing bilateral mechanisms. The Foreign Minister also provided the international community with an accurate understanding of Thailand's position in response to the statement delivered at the UNGA General Debate by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cambodia regarding the border situation.

In addition, the Foreign Minister informed the diplomatic corps of meetings with the United States private sector, senior UN officials, and foreign ministers of other Member States. Discussions also took place within the four-party informal consultations among Thailand, the United States, Malaysia, and Cambodia, on the sidelines of the UNGA. The dialogue underscored Thailand's objective in finding a peaceful and sustainable resolution to the Thailand-Cambodia situation.

In conclusion, the Foreign Minister reaffirmed Thailand's unwavering commitment to working constructively with Cambodia in addressing outstanding issues. He urged Cambodia to demonstrate sincerity both in words and deeds, including by refraining from provocative actions that could undermine the spirit of cooperation between the two countries. The Foreign Minister underscored that Thailand remains committed to peaceful dispute settlement through dialogue and the existing bilateral mechanisms.

The briefing was attended by 99 members of the diplomatic corps, representing 67 countries, 1 organization (the European Union), and 5 international organizations.
